Hello and welcome.

My name is Olivier Bourgeois and I am a French professional underwater filmmaker/photographer. My professional career, however, began on dry land. For several decades, I produced and directed films, documentaries and commercials for television and cinema. Coming to diving, I wanted to apply my knowledge and film experience to the underwater world, but it didn’t really go as planned :)

Indeed, the laws of physics such as the penetration of light into water or the absorption of colors forced me to deconstruct everything I have learned over many years and almost completely reconstruct my technical and artistic approach to reach the professional level of underwater shooting. Also, on the surface, we work with tripods to achieve stable shots, steadicams or dolly shots to create fluid camera movements. We are surrounded by large teams of specialized professionals, in the air, drones allow super-assisted shooting... But underwater, any of those things! It’s just us and our camera in an environment that is not “naturally” ours.

So, what we need and want is for our camera to become an extension of our body until the two become one. How, with basic or good cameras, can we produce underwater images worthy of the BBC or National Geographic? To achieve this goal, it’s been a long journey, a lot of work, a bit of luck and the implementation of a unique workflow.

Today, with my team, I offer you, through workshops that we organize in the most beautiful diving destinations on the planet, to share our passion for the oceans, our know- how, our tools and ALL our secrets for you to gain

Olivier Bourgeois’ underwater series have won numerous awards at the most prestigious underwater film festivals in the world. His footage is broadcast in a large number of documentaries or films produced by Netflix, BBC, Arte, Discovery Channel, Lionsgate, etc., as well as TV advertising. Its clients include international tourism boards such as the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) or Visit Tenerife. Very committed to ocean conservation, he is also a consultant for the IUCN SSC Coral Specialist Group.

My Gear

canon camera
Camera
I started working with CANON in 2010, it was a 7D at the time. I use CANON for both underwater photography and video. My current camera is a 1DX Mark II and my favorite lens is a Sigma ART 20mm.
underwater housing nauticam
Housing
I have been working with NAUTICAM housings since 2019. Of course, it represents a small investment but their housings, which I transport all over the world, are extremely reliable and rock solid.
dji drone
Drone
The first time I flew a drone was in 2016, since then I have never been without it. I opted for a DJI MAVIC 3 Classic which combines small size with cinematic image quality.
